Welcome to my Art Blog!

Summary of this Art Blog:

  • This blog will follow the trials and tribulations of the art process but it will be more of an insight into the art journey and becoming a full time artist.

  • I have an upcoming art fair soon, my first one and I’m so excited to be sharing that. So stay tuned for more!

Hi, I’m Kase, an artist based in Leicestershire, in the middle of England. I started The Caffeinated Hippo at the end of 2023. After working in multiple industries, I’m finally pursuing my dream of being a full-time artist.

I studied Fine Art at university which allowed me to explore my ideas conceptually, analysing art’s compositions, colours, emotions, processes, motifs etc. What interested me the most about being ‘classically’ trained as a Fine Artist, is that, anything is art. This is especially intriguing when you experience it. So that movie you saw last week? That's art. The book you read? The food you cooked this morning? Your relationships with others? All of these are forms of art.

Art is changing from the traditional means it was before. With the increase of technology and social media we are experiencing and viewing things differently than we were even 30 years ago. Art galleries and museums are now trying to find new ways to incorporate this in their exhibitions with augmented or virtual realities. Take the Vincent Van Gogh exhibition in Leicester for example, that is a new innovative and exciting new way to immerse yourself in Van Gogh’s pieces.

You may think that this is crazy, that someone eating jam off a car (a piece by Allan Kaprow) can be art. But anything can be. There will be art critics out there who oppose this belief, but, it’s all about the experience. How the experience made you feel or didn’t, how it can impact your life in a major or minor way. Art is all around you. Some may be mundane, some might be commercialised but it’s there.

With that in mind, I want you to understand that anyone can be an artist. It isn’t necessarily about what the end result is; the finished painting, movie or meal. It’s about how you got there and your thoughts or emotions about it. After all, it’s all about the journey and not the destination, am I right?

Mini-task

Take just 5 minutes to draw the first thing on your left on a scrap piece of paper. It is an impossible task to get this finished or perfected, but remember, it isn’t about the end result.

Done it?

Great, ask yourself how it made you feel; good, bad, a sense of relief? Do let me know too in the comments or on social media!

The aim of this task is to prove that you just experienced art: made by you, an artist. Not only that, but you felt something towards it, whether that is relief, a sense of accomplishment or even if you didn’t like it.

I know that talent is important, but talent is almost definitely there because of practice and determination. But with that being said, you can create art just because you want to.

My ‘Dopamine Collection’ on my website is artwork that I have created when I was feeling low and disconnected with the world. Art remains undefeated when battling my inner demons. The wonderful thing is, is that sometimes when you shut your mind off and create, you can create the most beautiful things. That inner voice which tells you ‘this can be better… you should’ve done this…’ is no longer present. Liberation can be the greatest boost for creativity.

If you like the feel of paint, or the ASMR of using coloured pencils, the ability to shut the outside world off and to just use that pure focus on creating, then do follow me, ‘The Caffeinated Hippo’ on socials; Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.

I want to use this blog to share my successes and achievements but to also show my errors and failures in hopes to inspire and comfort others.

See you in the next one,
